Mach-Zehnder Interferometer Based on a Metal-Insulator-Silicon Waveguide Mode and a Surface Plasmon Polariton

Abstract

An integrated-optical Mach-Zehnder interferometer, which is shorter than 5 µm and has extinction larger than 60 dB, is proposed and investigated theoretically. It is based on a metal-insulator-silicon waveguide mode and a surface plasmon polariton.
