Experimental Investigation of Self-starting in a Passively Mode-locked Fiber Laser Based on a Symmetrical NOLM

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate self-starting operation of a figure-eight mode-locked fiber laser using a power-balanced NOLM and a Quarter-Wave retarder in the loop. The laser generates 30 ps pulses with a repetition frequency of 0.8 MHz.
