Giant transmission and dissipation in perforated films mediated by surface phonon polaritons

Abstract

Measurements of mid-IR light transmission through optically thin SiC membranes perforated by an array of sub-wavelength holes reveal giant transmission/absorption, explained in terms of the effective permittivity ∈eff (ω) of the perforated film.
