Abstract

Nonbinary modulation with coherent detection maximizes spectral efficiency and tolerance to transmission impairments, while enabling effective electrical compensation of impairments. Advances in laser and digital signal processing technologies make coherent detection an increasingly practical alternative. Article not available.
