Self-generated optical modulation in a high-Q SOI microdisk resonator

Abstract

Self-generated periodic modulation of the optical properties of a silicon-on-insulator microdisk is described. A mechanism explaining the modulation, involving competing thermooptic and free carrier effects, is proposed and discussed.
