Abstract

We propose the new photonic crystal devices based on multi-mode interference effects. Wavelength demultiplexer and power splitter with extremely short lengths are designed by the simple guided-mode propagation analysis, and characterized with finite-difference time-domain calculations. The validity of the general self-imaging principle is confirmed from the analysis.
