Abstract
Backscatter in a high-Q microresonator incoherently couples counterpropagating whispering-gallery modes. Coherent mode coupling between two co-resonant microresonators results in behavior analogous to electromagnetically induced transparency. Including backscatter in a numerical model of coupled-resonator induced transparency can lead to significant modification of this behavior and may explain some experimental observations.
