Abstract

Coherent x-ray generation from a thin solid layer or any other periodic atomic structure with limited dimensions exposed to a short, superintense laser pulse, is investigated. Regimes when either stimulated bremsstrahlung of quasi-free electrons or tunneling-recollisions of bound electrons of highly charged ions are responsible for coherent radiation are considered.
