Abstract
A high contrast optical switch based on a porous silicon microcavity infiltrated with liquid crystals has been fabricated. Significant tuning of the resonance wavelength enables high contrast modulation between the off- and on-states. This silicon-based optical switch is a key building block towards next generation interconnects for microelectronics technology.
