Abstract
In this paper we will discuss the use of a new class of monodisperse hybrid materials based on nanobuilding blocks of octavinylsilsesquioxane cores with attached hole transport groups as active layers in the construction of organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). These novel materials can be deposited using standard processes currently applicable to polymer based OLEDs. Moreover, the materials in question have Tg values between 50-80°C higher than the corresponding molecular compound and much higher purity than polymer based OLED materials. Multilayer OLEDs were made using the nanostructured materials as hole transport layers (HTL). The devices were compared to similar structures with the corresponding molecular version as HTLs. Initial results are promising and indicate the potential of these novel materials in OLEDs and other photonic and electronic applications.
