Fundamentals and Applications of Photonic Crystals

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In this tutorial talk, we will review the fundamental ideas and recent progress in photonic crystal devices. Photonic crystal structures are constructed by introducing strong periodic index contrasts into dielectric media. In a crystal system, the photon can be described in terms of the band structures.
