Abstract

In many branches of optics such as optical recording and near field optics the interaction of light occurs with structures of the size of the order of the wavelength. In optical recording, metals like aluminium are encountered and when light is scattered by these metals, resonant plasmon surface waves can occur. These effects can only be studied using rigorous models based on Maxwell’s equations.
