Abstract

A high efficiency coupling technique for photonic crystal waveguides is proposed. The technique is based on combining the waveguide lens with a photonic-crystal waveguide. Finite-difference time-domain calculations show that the optimised waveguide lens can be used as a high-efficient coupler with a coupling efficiency that exceeds 90%.
