Ocular adaptive optics and the need for higher bandwidths

Abstract

We present an adaptive optics system with measured closed-loop bandwidths between 1 and 29 Hz depending on the specific system configuration and the particular subject tested. A pilot analysis of the system performance as a function of the achieved bandwidth showed consistently smaller variability in the correction and higher Strehl ratios with adaptive compensation for higher closed-loop bandwidths. Increased bandwidths not only improved optical quality but also reduced the variability of the wavefront RMS over time.
