Hyperspectral and Multispectral Infrared Sounding of the Environment: A Brief Overview

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Hyperspectral and multispectral sensors are the back-bone of the atmospheric and surface remote sensing community. Over the past few decades these sensors have provided crucial measurements of the Earth environment from multiple satellite platforms. Furthermore, these classes of sensor possess quite different measurement objectives and provide differing, yet complementary, information in terms of spatial and temporal scales and the areal coverage needed to monitor the state of the atmosphere for a variety of applications.
