Abstract
Noise characteristics in the spectrum data obtained by a FTS sensor TANSO-FTS (Thermal And Near infrared Sensor for carbon Observation Fourier-Transform Spectrometer), which will be onboard GOSAT (Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite), were analyzed and modeled by numerical simulation. GOSAT will be launched in 2008. Column densities of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) will be retrieved from the FTS data. At first, the noise factors in the obtained spectrum were listed up and were modeled. Secondly, magnitudes of the noises in the obtained spectra were estimated by numerical simulation. Finally, the modeled sensor noises were added to the simulated spectrum, then the gas retrieved errors of CO2 column density were estimated for references. The averaged retrieval error, which comes only from the sensor noises, was about 0.3% in this study. The modeled noises will be used for the retrieval simulation before the satellite launch.
