Abstract

In this paper, we present the design of adaptive fiber optics collimator (AFOC) based on flexible hinges by utilizing piezoelectric stacks actuators for one dimension displacement of the fiber end cap. The end cap is placed in the focal plane of the collimated lens. Different from the common design, the new structure of AFOC based on flexible hinges drive the fiber end cap instead of naked fiber, which is more suitable for high power laser system. We fabricated a real AFOC based on flexible hinges, and the end cap’s deviation and resonance frequency of this device were measured carefully. Experimental results indicate that this new type of AFOC can provide fast control of tip-tilt deviation of the laser beam emitted from the end cap. Due to that the fiber end cap can support higher power than naked fiber, this work present a promising structure for tip-tilt control of high power fiber laser system.
