Use of etendue and energy spread to assess inverse-Compton X-ray sources for applications

Abstract

While brightness is commonly used as an X-ray source figure of merit, it is not appropriate for many applications. Usable X-ray flux, restricted via application-specific etendue and energy spread, is a superior figure of merit.
