Abstract

Laser-wakefield electron acceleration (LWFA) is an emerging technology developed to overcome the limitation of conventional linear accelerators by utilizing huge field gradient in laser produced plasma. The LWFA can be applied to develop compact electron accelerators beneficial to basic sciences, medical and industrial applications. Using the LWFA, centimetre-scale multi-GeV electron accelerators have been demonstrated by taking advantages of recent high power laser technology reaching a power level of PW [1-3]. We have developed two PW Ti:Sapphire laser beamlines [4,5] and successfully applied PW laser pulses to generate a 3-GeV electron beam from a dual-stage He gas jet [1].
