Generation of light pulses with specifically carved profiles in a fiber laser using a NOLM and a spectral filter

Abstract

Passively mode-locked fiber lasers are highly valued for their ability to generate stable trains of ultrashort light pulses. However, despite they may correspond to a fixed attracting state, the output pulse profiles are poorly controlled in practice, since they result from a complex interplay of the physical effects that unfold, in general, along the whole laser cavity. For instance, with most of saturable absorbers, the transfer function of the component itself is not endowed with a well-defined fixed point for the pulse dynamics.
