Abstract

Interaction of solitons with dispersive waves (DWs) is a very fertile ground for studies of various important nonlinear optical processes such Cherenkov radiation, four waves mixing and generation of new frequencies, spectral recoil of solitons etc [1, 2]. These phenomena play crucial roles in spectral properties of supercontinuum sources [1, 2]. Extensive studies were performed considering scattering of weak DWs on solitons, with soliton’s properties remaining invariant (see [2] and references therein). It was also demonstrated that strong resonant collision of DWs with solitons can accelerate or decelerate solitons with consequent frequency upshifts or downshifts in spectral domain representation [3, 4]. Very interesting scenario occurs when DWs emitted by one soliton interacts with a neighboring solitons and gets reflected from it toward the parental soliton. This process can repeat itself resulting in trapping of the DW between the solitons [5]. As a result of multiple reflections both solitons experience attraction toward each other and may eventually collide creating solitonic cavity [5] pattern. This phenomenon was proven to be responsible for the appearance of multiple soliton knot patterns [6] during the complex supercontinuum generation process.
