Abstract

In recent years, the field of optomechanics, studying the interplay of light and mechanical motion of matter, has seen an increase of interest in cold and ultracold atomic systems. In particular, the phenomenon of optomechanical self-organization in cold atomic samples far from equilibrium driven by a detuned laser beam holds importance for nonlinear physics, cold atoms and condensed matter communities. For example, continuous symmetry breaking experiments on quantum degenerate gases inside multi-mode cavities have great potential in simulating phase transitions to supersolids in a controlled setting.
