Abstract

Perfect quantum optical amplification is forbidden [1]. Either noise is added, or the amplification is not deterministic. Nondeterministic amplification is normally based on the quantum scissors device [2]. Here we propose using a standard quantum optical amplifier combined with photon subtraction.
