Photonic Metamaterials: Recent Progress

Not Accessible

Abstract

Complete control of an electromagnetic light wave inside a material requires control of both, its electric and its magnetic component. However, all known natural substances have a negligible magnetic response at optical frequencies, i.e., their magnetic permeability is very nearly unity (µ=1). Hence, optics & photonics have been limited to a direct control of the electric component of light only.
