Hybrid Raman/EDFA Amplification of Next Generation Optical Fibers

Abstract

We show that increasing effective area is more beneficial than lowering fiber loss with optimized hybrid Raman/EDFA amplification for next generation fibers. A pump power limit of 1W has marginal impact on next-gen fiber performance.
