Dynamic On-demand Lightpath Provisioning Using Spectral Defragmentation in Flexible Bandwidth Networks

Abstract

We propose a spectral defragmentation algorithm and corresponding node architectures with wavelength conversion to support on-demand lightpath provisioning in flexible bandwidth optical networks. Simulation results demonstrate six-fold reductions in blocking rates with defragmentation.
