Modulation Cancellation Properties of Reflective SOAs

Abstract

Modulation cancellation and signal inversion are demonstrated within reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs). The effect is useful to implement colorless ONUs where downstream signals need to be erased in order to reuse the carrier for the upstream.
