TCM-QPSK Performance in Subsea Trials

Abstract

Trellis Coded Modulated (TCM)-QPSK has been demonstrated as a coherent optical modulation format. For the first time its performance is compared to BPSK on four subsea segments of different lengths, showing performance benefits of up to 1.8 dB.
