Making Holographic Television a Consumer Product

Abstract

While the MIT Media Laboratory has explored holographic video displays for over 15 years, recent work has added a new design requirement—that of making a display suitable for consumer use. Such a display must be at least standard television resolution, quiet, reliable, compact, manufacturable for at most a few hundred dollars, and capable of being driven by the graphics hardware of a PC or game console. We discuss our new display architecture, and its novel electro-optical and software aspects.
