Extracting Information from Ultrasound Images: Elasticity

Abstract

Speckle is an image artifact in biomedical ultrasound. Nevertheless, it provides a specific signature related to the distribution of acoustic scatterers within a resolution volume. As this volume displaces due to deformation, the speckle signature is almost exactly preserved, making it an ideal object for precise motion tracking. In this paper, a multi-dimensional correlation -based speckle tracking algorithm is presented to monitor the elastic properties of soft tissue.
