Abstract

The generation of frequency-modulated and amplitude-modulated combs on demand by a multi-section quantum dot laser are presented. The combs are centered at 1265 nm (7900 cm-1). Temporally- and spectrally-resolved intensity and inter-modal phase as well as time and frequency domain analysis identify frequency-modulated and amplitude-modulated comb generation in dependence on the laser gain current and absorber reverse bias voltage. Radio-frequency beat note line widths as low as 200 Hz are reported.
