Adjoint-based optimization of active nanophotonic devices

Abstract

We combine the adjoint variable method and the multi-frequency finite-difference frequency-domain method for systematic optimization of active nanophotonic devices. As an example, we numerically optimized a dynamic isolator which remains high isolation performance with half the modulation length.
