Abstract
In this contribution we present our investigations of the interactions between the individual stacks of a heterogeneous terahertz quantum cascade laser and their role in the stable operation of a broadband gain material. For this purpose we use terahertz pump / terahertz probe time domain spectroscopy to spectrally resolve the gain recovery time of the three individual stacks of the studied device biased above lasing threshold. The measurements reveal that the gain recovery time of the individual stacks can strongly differ for certain operation conditions.
