Narrow-linewidth, tunable external cavity diode lasers through hybrid integration of quantum-well/quantum-dot SOAs with Si3N4 microresonators

Abstract

We demonstrate hybridly integrated narrow-linewidth, tunable diode lasers via edge coupling. The silicon nitride photonic integrated circuit performs as the tunable external cavity, whereas the gain medium is provided by a quantum-well/quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier.
