Inter-modal Brillouin Scattering in an Integrated Waveguide

Abstract

We report strong stimulated Brillouin scattering between light guided in separate spatial modes of an integrated waveguide for the first time. Through this process, we demonstrate 2.3 dB of single-sideband optical amplification in a silicon waveguide.
