Spectrally-Efficient Direct Detection of QAM Signal by Orthogonal Carrier Interleaving

Abstract

We propose and numerically demonstrate a scheme that enables the direct detection of QAM signals by a single photodetector. 40-Gb/s 16-QAM signal over 22-km fiber transmission is recovered without sacrificing optical spectral efficiency.
