Unifying Brillouin scattering and cavity optomechanics in silicon photonic wires

Abstract

We prove a connection between the Brillouin gain and the zero-point optomechanical coupling rate. Moreover, we report on observations of Brillouin scattering in silicon photonic nanowires – showing efficient coupling between near-infrared light and gigahertz sound.
