Modulating Silicon Resonators beyond the Linewidth Limit

Abstract

We overcome the resonance linewidth limit in silicon ring modulators using photonic transitions between neighboring resonances. As an example, we demonstrate a silicon ring modulated at >20 GHz beyond its resonance linewidth of 11.5 GHz.
