Effect of the birefringent beat length on variability in passively modelocked fiber lasers

Abstract

Birefringence leads to sensitivity of the power transfer to polarization controller settings in passively modelocked fiber lasers that use nonlinear polarization rotation for fast saturable absorption. Shorter beat lengths lead to easier modelocking.
