Smith-Purcell radiation in periodic nanostructures: quantum effects and applicability

Abstract

We show that, using nanometric periodic structures, non-relativistic particles can generate light via Smith-Purcell radiation, ranging from Terahertz to visible; in this regime, quantum corrections become inevitable and lead to new effects.
