M-state frequency shift keying discrimination below the standard quantum limit

Abstract

We introduce a new quantum receiver based on frequency-shift keying encoding. We show that with the appropriate discrimination strategy the accuracy of this method significantly exceeds that of phase-shift keying-based quantum receivers.
