An optically levitated dielectric nanosphere in vacuum as a force sensor

Abstract

We present our progress towards using an optically levitated and cooled dielectric nanosphere in vacuum as a precision sensor. Such a system is well decoupled from the external environment and can have sub-attoNewton force sensitivity.
