Nanobump microresonators at the fiber surface

Abstract

It is shown that an asymmetric nanometer-high bump at the fiber surface causes strong localization of whispering gallery modes. Our theory explains and describes the experimentally observed nanobump microresonators in Surface Nanoscale Axial Photonics.
