Tunable, narrow line-width silicon micro-ring laser source for coherent optical communications

Abstract

We demonstrate a tunable laser source based on a silicon microring. 1.1 kHz line-width, >8 mW output power and wide tuning range are achieved. 4-QAM and 16-QAM coherent transmissions using this laser are also demonstrated.
