Upconversion of Microwave to Optical Photons using Erbium Impurities in a Solid

Abstract

We present a proposal for the efficient, quiet conversion of quantum states encoded as microwave photons into telecomunications photons using erbium dopants in solids. We also present initial results showing low efficiency conversion.
