Mostly Lossless: Quantum Hyperbolic Metamaterials

Abstract

We propose a new approach to drastically reduce losses in optical metamaterials, based on electronic quantum state engineering in a strongly anisotropic geometry, and present a practical design for a transparent THz hyperbolic metamaterial.
