Temperature evolution in the thin silica film on industrial glass due to treatment with ns UV laser.

Abstract

Laser treatment of materials can result in visible effects such as ablation [ref1] or invisible structural modifications such as densification and recrystallization etc [ref2]. The temperature rise in the sample due to the laser treatment can be quite high even in materials with low absorption [ref3] (Fig1). Yet, even in the absence of ablation the maximum temperature in the sample can be sufficient to trigger the diffusion processes such as sodium diffusion in glass. Control over the temperature evolution induced by a laser treatment inside glass covered with thin films is crucial for the glass industry.
