Abstract

Combining nanostructures in metamaterials allows precise engineering not only their linear optical properties and dispersion but also the nonlinear response and dynamic optical properties [1,2]. In particular, hyperbolic metamaterials, based on plasmonic nanorod arrays or metal-dielectric multilayers, provide wealth of exciting possibilities in nonlinear optics offering designed linear and nonlinear properties, polarization control, spontaneous emission control and many others [3-8]. These properties can be designed in a given frequency range by controlling the effective plasma frequency of metamaterial [3] and the electromagnetic field distribution associated with meta-atoms [4], as well as the mode structure of metamaterial waveguides [5-7].
