Abstract
Er:YAG laser operating at 2.94 µm, initially lamp pumped and nowadays diode pumped, is still under development for over 20 years because of its attractive features as: first, its emission wavelength is centered almost exactly at the peak of water absorption what is suitable for medical and biological applications and second, it is potentially convenient pump for generation of longer wavelengths radiation in nonlinear conversion processes. Especially side pumping offers the hope to achieve high energy stored in the lasing material volume.
