Abstract

Radially polarized focused light (RPFL) has fascinating features, which are useful for micro-machining, sensing, and optical trapping [1-3]. Thus, fine control of the focal point of RPFL is essentially of great interest in various nano-scaled applications. The traditional method for controlling the focal point is to simply move the whole focusing system back and forth. Obviously, this will tend to cause relatively large inaccuracy and uncertainty. To overcome such a limitation, we propose a metallic Fresnel zone plate implemented in an all-fiberized format, capable of controlling the focal point of RPFL via its wavelength. The all-fiberized platform benefits avoiding elaborate efforts in optical alignment, and also obtaining the radially polarized light in conjunction with a metallic zone plate thanks to the nature of surface plasmons (SPs).
